We all want to look our best when we are worn out and tired and sometimes there is only one thing for it. A tired face can leave you looking older and not looking your best means that you can end up not feeling your best.
When I read this article published in August 2017, I realised that ‘makeup for men’ is set to become the next big thing in mens grooming. Click below for the article.
During my time on television I have got used to wearing makeup, both in the studio and on location. Often on location you would have to apply your own and so I soon learnt how. The camera has a fantastic knack of making you look pasty and tired without any on. Shiny skin can look greasy on camera which is never a good look. I saw the results it had on me and thought it could be a useful tool for those times when I looked absolutely worn out. There are many!
The problem is, for some of us the word makeup and men just doesn’t seem to fit. Some guys are concerned they may look like they are wearing it and could be judged as vain. Some will feel it makes them look and appear less masculine and is something only gay men would do. These attitudes are changing fast, talk to a guy in his early 20’s or turn on ‘Love Island’ on ITV2 to see guys happy to use these products to make the best of themselves.
For me it’s about hiding the imperfections like blotchy skin and eye-bags and enhancing those masculine features such as your jawline and eyebrows. The trick is to not look like you are wearing any. Women use makeup in the same more exaggerated way on their eyes, lips and cheeks but as men we can find our own path. I’ve decided not to call it make-up but male-up to prove my point!
My 5 step male-up routine for worn out men!
